My Dearest Friend,
As you know, I have a degenerative neurological disease called Parkinson’s. (In my case, Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease or “YOPD”.) It often makes the muscles in my feet hurt.
In fact, problems with my feet when I was an avid hiker turned out to early signs of Parkinson’s, before any tremors came along. My podiatrist referred me to a neurologist for diagnosis.
Over time, I’ve learned the importance of really good socks to the comfort of my feet. This is true for both cushioning and temperature control.
What socks are the best for me?
After trying various socks from a number of brands, including Nike, Smart Wool, and Carhartt (to name just a few), I discovered Darn Tough and never looked back.
In my experience, Darn Tough makes the best “Full Cushion” socks. They put the cushioning in the right places, the socks hold their shape throughout numerous wears and washes, they lose almost no material in the laundering cycle, the material help maintain proper temperature and moisture levels, and they are guaranteed for life.
I have owned and worn some Darn Tough sock pairs hundreds of times—they have not worn out or lost their shape.
Socks with shoes
Though my shoes do have a reasonable amount of cushioning in the sole construction, I have found that sneakers with too much cushioning tend to adversely effect my stability.
The cushioning in the socks also remains consistent even as the foam in the sole construction of the sneakers compresses. Wearing the Full Cushion socks from Darn Tough extends the effective lifespan of my sneakers, which are typically Brooks Ghosts. I pretty much live in Darn Tough socks + Brooks Ghost sneakers.
Where can you get these great socks?
You can purchase Darn Tough socks directly from their own website, at REI, on Amazon, and other stores.
If you have feet issues like mine, or just like to have comfortable feet, I encourage you to check out what Darn Tough has available. Be sure to get “Full Cushion” socks! Not all of their socks are in that category.
I hope this information is helpful and makes your life journey a bit easier.
Lots of love,
John
