In all my life, I do declare
To never having seen a face,
A soul, a heart so fair!
Oh joy of depth unknown,
A step, a leap, a bound,
My fancies bear me high
While I’m still on the ground.

Patience, me. Be calm,
Be still. So rare a beauty’s
Won not in a quarter mile,
Nor yet a mile, but leagues.
Pace slow, pace true and straight –
You’ll find a gift,
A miracle, a mystery
Unfolded none too late.

Heart gentled in hand,
Quivering, quieting, to a stand.
Bit and bridle, led, taught,
Saddled, bucked, thrown... caught...
Held.
